Week 1:Drawon prior knowledge about nutrition and categorize nutritious and non-nutritious foods. Begin lesson with a Brain Pop movie. Week 2:Read a book about nutrition. Students will write about why nutrition is important and give appropriate examples. Week 3:Analyze portions according to labels. Predict what they believe is a portion to what a real portion looks like. Week 4:Design and create a healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner menu. Write it as a restaurant menu with details and pictures. Brainpopjr and Blast off game!
Week 5:Demonstrate knowledge by analyzing Malden Public Schools’ free snacks and lunch/breakfast menus. Week 6: Culminate their knowledge by cooking healthy foods we discussed, identified, and presenting healthy menus.
